Biography

Be Peace

Be Peace was born and raised in Oxnard, California, home of the legendary Nardcore punk scene and Master Producer / Emcee, Madlib. He began writing rhymes at the age of 8 after seeing Wild Style at the movie theater. At the age of 12, he saved enough allowance to purchase his first drum machine, the Boss DR-550, and started programming beats. Low on equipment and funds, and dying to broaden his horizons, he took apart his all-in-one stereo to gain access to the phono output and wired it to a mixer with the drum machine, allowing him to produce original beats, complete with cuts and samples.

Fast-forward 16 years, Be Peace is producing beats daily. He founded Nonfikshen Records, signed the label’s first artists and produced vinyl, CD, and digital releases featuring Canibus, Phoenix Orion, Neila of LA2theBay, Radioinactive of The Shape Shifters, and more. After a 5 year hiatus and a move to the Bay Area, Be Peace located the small vinyl collection from his youth and used it to produce Illusion of Choice, a 10-track boom-bap beat tape which he distributed online under a Creative Commons license. After its completion he purchased a condenser mic and began recording the rhymes he wrote while producing the project. On his first public release as an Emcee, “Check The Message” (Water Fluoridation is Bad for Your Health), Peace did a takeoff of Ice Cube’s “Check Yo Self” (The Message Remix) featuring Das Efx to share facts and highlight the dangers of water fluoridation. Chuck D of Public Enemy featured the song on his radio show And You Don’t Stop! which airs in New York City on radio station WBAI 99.5 FM and worldwide at Rapstation.com.

Be Peace is in the studio recording and producing on a daily basis and is currently working on new designs for Nonfikshen Clothing, an all organic T-shirt line.
